Barrow sea ice information on BAID-IMS

Sea Ice Imagery

March 25, 2008 SAR Image @ European Space Agency. Data processed for the Barrow Area Information Database.

Near real time satellite imagery of the Barrow area is incorporated into BAID-IMS for the Spring 2008 field season as a visual aid to enhance logistic support for researchers and local hunters on the sea ice. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data from the RADARSAT-1 (ScanSAR Wide Beam) and ERS-2 sensors is available for browsing online. A new file will be posted every 3 days or sooner as data becomes available from the receiving station at the Alaska Satellite Facility.  It is likely the RADARSAT-1 sensor will be phased out in April,
but we will continue to process ESR-2 imagery until July 8th.
